CRKT Zilla-Tool - Launce Barber and Tom Stokes designed the patented* Zilla-Tool? as part of our innovative I.D. Works? line of tools. It really is the monster tool, with a comfortable ergonomic handle that lets you get a lot of work done. The pliers jaws are spring loaded, with a slight needle nose taper. They have both fine flat and circular toothed gripping surfaces. Near the base of the pliers, is a very useful wire cutter and also a notch near the handle for wire stripping. You can store the two screwdriver hex bits in the Zilla-Tool's handle reliefs. It also accepts other standard hex bits. To open the knife blade quickly, just press the little 'flipper.' It also acts as a blade guard when the blade is open. Metallic surfaces are bead-blast, while the Zilla-Tool's rugged scales are injection molded black Zytel®. The custom stainless steel clip will hold the Zilla-Tool in your pocket or on gear, or it can be removed if you want to use the included nylon sheath with belt loop and snap closure. The Zilla-Tool can open bottles too, using the end of its pliers handle.

Scott S of Chico, CA - January, 18 2014:
The blade came out of the package quite sharp. It is decent steel that retains its edge nicely and was easy to re-sharpen using a simple tabletop sharpener. It is easily opened with one finger. The pliers have an unusual “slow open” mechanism that while convenient, felt weird because I was not used to it. The profile is also more slender than conventional pliers, which requires you to squeeze the handles closer together. This was not much of a problem using the pliers to manipulate items, but I found I had a hard time getting good leverage when using the wire cutters. The holster is constructed of nylon mesh that is reinforced with leather in areas where extensive wear would occur. Very nice quality. The outer shell is made of a hardened plastic that is very robust and took quite a beating without showing much wear. The bit driver was the least useful component on this tool. The driver is set in close to the main body of the tool so the throat is actually wider than the bit, making it a pain to get into tight areas and keeping it lined up with the fastener. Using an extension would fix this problem, but the tool does not come with its own extension. I found myself grabbing a conventional driver more often than not. While this tool will not replace my Leatherman, it has certainly found a spot in my tackle box as the pliers and blade are ideal for fishing trips.
